28th SEA Games 2015

28th SEA Games diving events took place over 4 days at the OCBC Aquatic Centre from 6th-9th June 2015. A total of 46 divers from 7 SEA countries took part, namely Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand & Singapore.

We started the first day of competition with the Women’s 3m Individual Springboard, sending 2 of our national divers, Myra Lee & Fong Kay Yian, to compete against divers from Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam. Kay Yian broke her personal best record with a score of 258.90 and clinched a bronze for Singapore. Myra came in 5th in position with a score of 211.00.

Next, we have the Men’s Synchronised Platform in which Ooi Tze Liang and Chew Yi Wei won their 1st gold medal for this competition as a duo with a score of 404.37. Indonesia duo, Andriyan & Putra Adityo Restu bagged the silver with a score of 355.11 followed by the Thailand – Siriboon Theerapat & Juntaphadawon, winning the bronze medals with a score of 316.77.

The second day of competition kicked off with the Men’s 3M Individual Springboard event featuring Mark Lee and Timothy Lee. Mark fought from the 7th position in round 2, eventually emerging as a bronze medallist with a score of 349.25 in the final round. Timothy finished close behind with a score of 347.30 in the 4th position.

In the Women’s 10m Synchronised Platform, Singapore’s Myra Lee and Freida Lim competed against other 5 other teams.  Our duo was consistently in the 2nd position throughout all 5 rounds, bagging the silver medals with a score of 238.59.

Into the 3rd day of competition, we have the Women’s 3M Synchronised Springboard event. We have a relatively new pairing of Ashlee Tan & Fong Kay Yian representing Singapore in this event. Despite only training together for 3m Synchronized event for only 8 months, they manage to get a 2nd position in this event, bagging the 2nd set of silver medals for Singapore.

Next up, we have the Men’s Individual Platform event in which Jonathan Chan competed in. He put up a strong battle against Malaysian diver, maintaining his 2nd position till the 5th round of dive in which Chew Yi Wei overtook him.  Jonathan eventually finished in 3rd position with a score of 356.55.

On the last day of competition, we have the Men’s 3M Synchronized Springboard event. Our diving twins, Timothy and Mark Lee, put up a fierce fight against the Malaysia team, Ooi Tze Liang & Azman Ahmad Amsyar and came in 2nd position eventually with a score of 381.78, just 27.78 points behind the gold medallists. In the midst of winning silver for Singapore, Tim & Mark also broke their personal best in this 3M Synchronized event.

In the last event of the competition- the Women’s 10M Individual Platform featured 2 of our Singapore divers, Kimberly Chan & Freida Lim. Freida finished in 3rd position with a score of 251.70 with Kimberly close behind in the 4th position with a score of 241.35.

In comparison to the medal tally of our divers in 27th SEA Games, 2 Silvers 2 Bronzes, our divers clinched a total of 3 Silvers & 4 Bronzes, earning us our title of 2nd best diving team in South-East Asia. A job well done!
