SEA Games 2013 – Singapore Diving results

The SEA Games 2013 was held at Myanmar, Naypyidaw from the 18th to the 21st of December. Team Singapore sent a total of 6 divers to the games, and competed against athletes from Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Competition kicked off with the Women’s 3m springboard, where Singapore divers Fong Kay Yian and Myra Lee remained in 3rd and 4th place respectively till round 3. During round 4, Fong Kay Yian challenged the hardest dive in her dive list but due to a bad hurdle, it led to her losing 3rd place to Indah Aka from Indonesia. The competition ended with Myra Lee taking 4th with 233.10 points, and Fong Kay Yian 5th with a score of 218.55.

The Men’s 3m springboard was held on Day 2 of competition, where diving twin brothers Timothy and Mark Lee competed in, against 8 other divers. Pressure throughout the event was intense as diving twins were up against experienced divers who have been diving for 10 years. However, Mark Lee managed to complete a stable list of dives coming in 2nd with 324.15 points. Timothy Lee came in 4th with 311.95 points, missing bronze position just by 2.20 points.

On to Day 3 of competition, diving duo Timothy Lee and Mark Lee snatched 2nd place from the Indonesian pair by just 1.17 points in the Men’s 3m springboard synchronized, giving them the silver medal. Later in the day, in the Women’s 3m springboard synchronized, Myra Lee and Fong Kay Yian hauled in another medal for team Singapore, getting 3rd place with 223.53 points, winning over team Vietnam and Thailand.

On the last and final day of competition, in the Men’s 10m platform synchronized, Timothy Lee and Mark Lee surprised everyone with a second synchronized medal, pulling off a bronze medal with 300.24 points. The Women’s 10m platform synchronized followed after where Kimberly Chan and Arizir Fong completed a commendable list of dives, finishing 5th with a score of 206.43 points.

Singapore diving is proud to have won its first SEA games medal in 28 years and achieved the biggest medal haul of 2 Silvers and 2 Bronzes in 40 years. Excellent job to all divers!
