9th Asian Swimming Championships 2012

Fong Kay Yian, Timothy Lee and Mark Lee represented Singapore in the 9th Asian Swimming Championships in Dubai (UAE) from 22 – 25 November 2012.

The first day of the competition saw Timothy Lee and Mark Lee partner in the Men’s 3m Synchronised Springboard finals. The twin brothers took 5th position with a score of 280.68 points. China took Gold while Malaysia and Hong Kong China took Silver and Bronze respectively.

Timothy and Mark were on the 3m boards again on Day 2, to compete in the 3m Men’s individual event. Both men did well to attain 10th and 12th positions to qualify for the Finals. Timothy scored 311.20 points while Mark scored 273.00 points.

In the Finals, Mark scored 301.95 points for 10th place while Timothy took 12th position (211.60 points).

Kay Yian scored 212.50 points in the 3m Women Springboard Finals on Day 3 and came in 11th place amongst 12 finalists. China’s Zhang Jun and Wei Ying took Gold and Silver respectively, while Malaysia’s Cheong Jun Hoong, an Olympian in London 2012, took Bronze.

It was heartening to note that amongst the 11 Asian countries which competed in the diving events, Singapore was placed 6th or better in the events our divers competed in.
