3rd Singapore Diving Invitational 2012 – Report

The 3rd Singapore Diving Invitational 2012 was held from 6-8 July 2012 at Toa Payoh Swimming Complex. This competition saw 54 divers participating in a total of 28 events. The athletes came from Macau China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Myanmar, Uzbekistan, New Zealand and Singapore, including our local clubs, the Aerotumblers Diving Club and Ngee Ann Polytechnic Diving Club. Day 1 saw Jonathan Chan participating in the Open Men Platform event. He competed against 5 other divers to clinch the Gold medal, with a score of 294.35. Tom Chambers, from the Aerotumblers Diving Club, won the Silver with a score of 254.05.

Phoebe Cartwright from the Aerotumblers Diving Club took part in the Open Women Platform event and came in 4th with 146.95 points.

In the morning session of Day 2, Phoebe Cartwright competed in the Group C Girls 3m Springboard event and came in 4th out of 6 divers, with a score of 211.10.

In the Group B Boys 3m Springboard event, Jonathan Chan competed against 5 other divers and took away the Gold, with a total of 380.85 points.

The Open Men 3m Springboard event saw 7 participating divers from Hong Kong, East Java Indonesia and Singapore. Mark Lee clinched the Bronze with a score of 293.00 behind Tom Chambers (Aerotumblers Diving Club, 301.75 pts) while Timothy Lee came in 1st with a score of 350.00.

In the afternoon session, Myra Lee came in 4th with a score of 193.50 in the Open Women 1m Springboard event. Fong Kay Yian and Arizir Fong came in 5th and 7th, with 183.65 and 159.35 points respectively.

The afternoon also saw Jonathan Chan and Tierney Lee competing against 5 divers in the Group B Boys 1m Springboard event. Jonathan Chan won the Gold, with a total score of 306.05 while Tierney Lee came in 5th with 250.40 points.

In the Group A Girls 3m Springboard event, Arizir Fong competed against Amiraslanova Kristina from Uzbekistan and came in 1st with a score of 304.50.

Timothy Lee and Mark Lee competed in the Open Men Synchronised 3m Springboard event, against Cheng Lok Cheung Max and Yip Long Sing from City East Sports (Hong Kong). They came in 1st place after earning 290.52 points.

In the Open Women Synchronised 3m Springboard event, Myra Lee and Fong Kay Yian took the Bronze with 222.87 points, behind the Macau team, comprising Choi Sut Ian and Lo I Teng (252.48 pts) and City East Sports (Hong Kong), comprising Sharon Chan and Leung Sze Man (243.24 pts).

In the Group C Girls Synchronised 1m Springboard event, Ashlee Tan and Reese Huang also took the Bronze with a score of 127.95, behind Uzbekistan, comprising Nurkhanova Diyora and Mustaeva Amina (132.36 pts) and City East Sports (Hong Kong), comprising Ng Ka Yan and Pin Lok Yee Ally (128.82 pts).

The third and final day of the 3rd Singapore Diving Invitational saw Ashlee Tan and Reese Huang participating in the Age 13 & Under Girls 1m Springboard event. Ashlee Tan won the Gold with a score of 186.25 while Reese Huang came in 3rd out of 4 divers with 144.85 points.

In the Age 13 & Under Boys 1m Springboard event, Tan Xuan Le won the Silver with a score of 147.75, behind Lei Wai Shing from Macau (187.80 pts).

Rachel Yip from the Ngee Ann Poytechnic Diving Club took part in the Age 14 & Over Girls 1m Springboard. She won the Silver medal with 179.05 points, behind Lam Hiu Ting of City East Sports (Hong Kong), who earned 186.15 points.

Arizir Fong and Kimberly Chan took away the Gold and Silver awards respectively in the Group A Girls 1m Springboard event, with a total of 285.10 and 262.55 points.

In the Group B 1m Springboard events, Tan Xuan Jing came in 5th out of 7 divers, with a total of 218.05 points.

The afternoon session saw Timothy Lee and Mark Lee competing in the Open Men 1m Springboard event. They took away the Gold and Silver awards respectively, with a score of 285.00 and 251.90. Tom Chambers came in 4th with a score of 243.75, behind Li Chak Sum, from City East Sports (Hong Kong) who earned 251.70 points. Reuben Moey, from the Aerotumblers Diving Club, came in 8th with a score of 110.05.

Myra Lee and Fong Kay Yian competed against 4 divers in the Open Women 3m Springboard event and came in 4th and 5th respectively, with 200.00 and 188.40 points. The winner of this event was Choi Sut Ian, Macau, who was the Bronze medallist in the 1st Asian Youth Games 2009.
